The Official Awards Ceremony of the Justitia Awards 2020 will be held in Vienna at the Palace of Justice. The ceremony takes place on 19 November 2020 at 19:00 (admission from 18:30, event: 19-21, cocktail reception: 21-22). The registration for our Awards Ceremony starts on July 1, 2020.
We have been anxiously monitoring the latest COVID-19 developments on a national and global scale and, therefore, have decided to switch to an online-only format for our Justitia Awards Ceremony on 19 November 2020. Travel restrictions hinder our international nominees, sponsors, and guests from joining us in Vienna, where safety measures at the Palace of Justice would force us to limit our guest list significantly. Such an exclusive setting would go against everything we stand for. Women in Law strives for inclusivity and wants to open previously closed doors for women. And that is what we are going to do with the Justitia Awards Ceremony!
We have produced a video, celebrating our nominees, and finally revealing our winners. The Justitia Awards Celebration will premier online on our YouTube channel on 19 November 2020, at 7 pm (CET).
The 1st category “International leaders / Lifetime Award” celebrates the most impressive and influential women in the legal profession and acknowledges their achievements and contribution to society. The winner is “the” outstanding “woman in law” of the year.
The nominees in the 2nd category “Academia” have an excellent scholarly reputation and considerable influence on their field. They have made sustained efforts to bring about positive changes in attitudes, values, and practices concerning gender equality in the legal professions.
The “Young achievers / Game changers / Pioneers” in the 3rd category are lateral thinkers who pursue innovative approaches, who have broken the glass ceiling in their field of expertise, or who set new standards in the legal professions even as young newcomers.
Selecting the best from the submissions from 4 continents was no easy task for the top-class jury. Together with the co-initiator of Women in Law, the Viennese lawyer Dr. Alix Frank-Thomasser, Timothy Wilson, OBE, CEO of the MSI Global Alliance, Prof. Dr. Sonja Bydlinski, MBA, Head of the Department for Corporate and Company Law in the Federal Ministry of Justice, Dr. Rupert Wolff, President of the Austrian Bar Association (ÖRAK), Dr. Julia Valsky, Head of Group Diversity Management, Erste Group Bank AG and Dr. Raffaela Zillner, LL.M., Juristenverband selected the winners in the respective categories.
