Dr. Marta J. Glowacka, LL.M.
Where did you study law?
At Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU).
In short, please describe your career steps?
I started off as a teaching assistant at the university and gained some experience at a law firm. Then I went back to university as a teaching and research associate before working for the Supreme Court as a research associate and afterwards moving on to the private sector. As of summer 2018, I am back at the university, working on my habilitation.
In short, what were the obstacles in your career path?
Not necessarily an obstacle, but fixed term contracts and red tape have been and continue to be a challenge, as it is difficult to assure quality in research, teaching and personal development.
In which position / company / institution are you currently working?
Assistant professor at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU).
What is your take on work-life balance?
My experience is that a fulfilling professional career may have a great positive influence on private life and vice versa. One cannot prosper without the other.
What is yourmotivation to speak at “Women in Law”?
I find it extremely important, especially for women, to improve their networks, exchange experiences and support each other. I am therefore thankful for the opportunity to participate in this movement.
