Nominee: Rehana Khan Parker
STATEMENT MADE BY REHANA KHAN PARKER
It is an honor and privilege to be shortlisted as a nominee in WOMEN IN LAW VIENNA’ s prestigious Justitia Awards.
As a lawyer with 27 years standing in South Africa, the fact that I am nominated means a lot to me as it is the first international recognition for me in my capacity as a lawyer.
Whist my work embraces Public International Law, Constitutional and Human Rights Law; there remains a great deal of work to be done in the issues for women in the profession.
This platform fosters a sisterhood; it realizes global discussions on how to champion the role of women domestically to internationally; connects continents, find paths, dissect our intersections and share our experiences on what best approaches to adopt in striving for parity. However, besides the aforegoing and more importantly, is the fight against the scourge of sexual discrimination, gender-based violence which has for decades plagued the women in our profession.
I look forward to discussions and strategies centered around these issues as we forge new friendships across the continents.
